What is a transformer breather?

A transformer breather is a device used to maintain the integrity of a transformer, or similar equipment’s insulation system, by controlling the level of moisture entering the transformer. It consists of a container filled with a desiccant material, which absorbs moisture from the air entering the transformer. The breather is connected to the transformer's conservator tank, allowing air to pass through the desiccant before entering the tank. As the desiccant absorbs moisture, it prevents the accumulation of water vapor inside the transformer, reducing the risk of insulation degradation, corrosion, and electrical faults. Transformer breathers play a crucial role in extending the lifespan of transformers and ensuring their reliable operation in various industrial applications.

“R” Series Transformer Breathers – manufactured from UV stabilised polycarbonate. Available in 3 sizes.
“S, T & U” Transformer Breathers – removable desiccant container, allowing the desiccant to be changed without breaking the breather pipe connection. Manufactured from UV stabilised polycarbonate.
“V, W, X, Y, & Z” Transformer Breathers - provides protection against moisture for large capacity tanks. Removable desiccant container, allowing the desiccant to be changed without breaking the breather pipe connection.
